The Ruta dels 7 Gorgs is a short circular day walk near Campdevànol in El Ripollès, Girona, Spain. The core waterfalls circuit is 7.5 km, with a fuller loop of around 10 km depending on parking and return route. Allow roughly 3–4 hours walking, plus time for swimming or a picnic. It is a moderate hike: gradients are mostly gentle, but the path is rocky, uneven and slippery beside the Torrent de la Cabana. It suits hikers wanting a forest-and-waterfall day route rather than a high-mountain trek.

Route Overview

Start and finish near the Font del Querol picnic and car park, just outside Campdevànol at about 760 m. The signed Itinerànnia route follows the Torrent de la Cabana through mixed pine and deciduous forest, linking the seven gorgs in order: Gorg de la Cabana, Gorg de la Tosca, Gorg de l’Olla, Gorg de la Bauma, Gorg del Forat, Gorg Petit del Colomer and Gorg del Colomer. Most walkers complete it as a loop; a there-and-back to the falls is also possible. Some itineraries start from the Serralada de Montgrony environmental information point in Campdevànol. Paid parking and seasonal access control operate near Font del Querol.

Local bathing pools and a managed recreation route

The gorgs of the Torrent de la Cabana have long been used by local Campdevànol communities as summer bathing and gathering places in the Ripollès. Today the route is formalised as a signed recreational circuit on the Itinerànnia network, using yellow waymarks. Visitor pressure in the main bathing season led to the introduction of a seasonal eco-tax, which funds trail maintenance and helps manage access to the pools and streamside paths.

Notable highlights

  • Gorg de la Cabana: The first and most accessible waterfall pool on the route, with a broad bathing area that makes it a popular early stop.
  • Gorg de la Tosca: A deep, green-tinted pool and one of the best-known swimming spots on the Torrent de la Cabana.
  • Gorg de l’Olla: A shaded woodland fall where the water drops into a rounded, pot-shaped basin; “olla” means cooking pot.
  • Gorg de la Bauma: Set below an overhanging rock shelter, giving this pool a more enclosed, grotto-like feel.
  • Gorg del Forat: A narrow, deep gorge pool and one of the stronger bathing spots on the circuit.
  • Gorg Petit del Colomer and Gorg del Colomer: The smaller pool sits below the final falls; Gorg del Colomer is the largest pool and is usually treated as the route highlight or turnaround point.

Challenges to expect

Expect uneven forest paths, dirt and gravel tracks, short paved sections and rocky streamside stretches. The main difficulty is footing: rocks and crossing points can be slippery near the falls, especially when wet. Summer brings the best swimming conditions but also the busiest access period and seasonal fees. Carry water in hot weather, keep dogs on a lead and allow extra time if you plan to swim.
